Fairfax County Crash Leaves Pedestrian Dead

Police with the Annandale Police Department inside of Fairfax County have issued a statement regarding the death of a pedestrian on the night of Friday, September 21st. According to the statement, the incident is still under investigation; however it is believed that the police completed the majority of information gathering and no charges are currently pending against any individual connected with the fatality.

It was close to 11:00 at night when the police first received calls of an accident between a car and a pedestrian. It is not clear how long after the crash the call to the emergency services was placed, but it is likely that the call reached the call center shortly after the accident itself. Annandale Police officers were joined by numerous EMT personnel and other first responders as they made their way to the Little River Turnpike, where the incident itself took place.

When they arrived, they found a single car, its driver, and a badly injured person lying on the ground. Despite the best efforts of the emergency medical staff who arrived on the scene, the pedestrian died as a result of their injuries.

At the time of this writing, the specifics around what happened are not clear. What appears to be the case is that the pedestrian was either walking on or beside the Little River Turnpike when they strayed onto a service road running alongside this main street. At this time, a car driving down the westbound lanes of the service road paralleling the Little River Turnpike reached the area where the pedestrian was walking. The driver of the car either did not see the pedestrian or the pedestrian wandered into the roadway in such a way as to make themselves unavoidable. The car then collided with the pedestrian, inflicting upon them the wounds that later led to their death.

The police indicated that speed and alcohol were not factors affecting the driver of the car at the time of the accident; however there is some suggestion that alcohol may have been affecting the pedestrian. Police were able to identify the deceased man as a 33-year-old, although there was no information regarding the city or town where they lived or what authorities believe they were doing walking alongside the roadway at that time of night.
