DUI Arrests in Fairfax During Last Days of March

Little has been released on two incident that resulted in DUI arrests in Fairfax County on March 29th and March 30th. What we know comes exclusively from two brief reports included in a weekly roundup of police stories issued by the Fairfax County Police Department (the law enforcement agency responsible for many of the cities and towns throughout Fairfax County, including Fairfax City). These reports provide very little information regarding the circumstances of the arrest, but they do give us the barebones outlines of what happened, when, and who it involved.

he first of these incidents happened on the 29th, shortly before 11:00 in the evening. It is not clear what raised the suspicion of the police officer who was responding to the incident, but it seems that they felt it prudent to initiate a traffic stop on a car that was traveling along Fairfax Boulevard, close to Eaton Place. The driver of the car, a 58-year-old Fairfax Resident, obeyed the officer's signals, and soon both vehicles were on the side of the road and the officer was standing behind the car, speaking with the driver.

Through this conversation, the officer became suspicious of the driver's sobriety. After conducting several field tests, the responding officer came to the conclusion that the driver of the car was intoxicated. The officer immediately placed the driver under arrest and transported them from the area of the traffic stop to the Adult Detention Center in Fairfax. Bond was set at $1,000, and at the time of the official report it had not been paid. It is not clear if the individual has since been released from the detention center or if they are awaiting trial from within the jail.

The second incident happened just after 1:00 in the morning of March 30th. This particular circumstance played out along University Drive, close to the intersection of University and Jean Street. Similar to the previous incident, the officer in question performed a routine traffic stop on a car being driving in a suspicious manner. During the interaction between the officer and the driver of the vehicle, the officer began to suspect the driver of the car of being intoxicated. The 24-year-old Springfield resident was subsequently arrested and taken to the Adult Detention Center. His $2500 bond was not secured.

Both of these incidents are still under investigation, and it is not known if a trial date has been set for either.
