Car Hits Jersey Wall in Fairfax County, Causes Fatal 2nd Crash

On Thursday, January 11, police officers in the Franconia area of Fairfax County responded to reports of a car accident at Loisdale Road that reportedly took place shortly before 12:30 in the afternoon. The official statement from the Franconia Police Department indicates that the crash involved at least two vehicles and that one of car's drivers died as a result of the incident.

What we know about the specifics of the crash is that a 2006 Ford Ranger was driving down the southern lanes of Loisdale Road. Behind the wheel of the ranger was the 73-year-old Jones, a Manassas resident. It was while Jones was passing through Loisdale Road's 7700 block that something happened to cause him to either momentarily lose control or simply miscalculate the distance between his car and the Jersey wall sitting on the southbound lane's shoulder.

Due to the force of the collision, Jone's Ford ricocheted off of the Jersey wall, passed across the southern lanes, and entered the northbound lanes at the same time as a car being driven by an unnamed 66-year-old woman from Lorton was passing through the same area.

The two cars collided with one another in a head-on crash which resulted in both Jones and the woman suffering from serious injuries. Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and were able to extricate both of the individuals (believed to be the only people inside of the cars at the time of the collision) and transport them to a nearby hospital. Sadly, the injuries sustained by Jones were severe and halted his ability to recover. He was declared dead shortly after arriving at the medical facility.

The unnamed woman, while also injured, was not in a life-threatening position, and it is believed that she is recovering well from the crash.

Detectives with the Fairfax Police Department are working with officials in the Franconia Police Department to uncover the cause of the incident. It is believed that neither speed nor alcohol played any role in the accident, and officials are now looking into whether or not Jones experienced some sort of medical emergency in the moments before his collision with the Jersey wall.
