Police in Fairfax County working with the Vienna Police Department recently responded to an incident along Maple Avenue that resulted in several injuries. Details of the incident appeared in a roundup of stories written for and published on the City of Vienna’s “Press Room” page. While many of the specific details of the crash were not included in the preliminary report, we do know that the incident happened on Tuesday, June 19th, and that it took place between 9:00 and 9:30 in the morning.
Two cars were involved in the crash. One of these cars was driving down the north side of Follin Lane and approaching the intersection of Follin Lane and Maple Avenue. As they neared this juncture, the began preparing to turn off of Follin Lane and join the westbound lanes of Maple Avenue.
At this same point along Follin Lane and Maple Avenue is the Westwood Country Club’s parking lot. While the first driver was preparing to turn, a second driver was planning on leaving the parking lot, crossing over the Maple Avenue lanes, and then merge onto southbound Follin Lane. The report did not make it clear which of these two drivers had the right of way, but it seems that as the first car initiated their turn they wound up colliding with the second car.
The force of the collision caused severe damage along the exterior and interior of both of the cars. While the report did not specify what sort of collision it was, it is highly possible that the two cars either struck one another head-on or in a T-bone configuration. Each type of collision can result in tremendous damages to the cars involved as well as severe injury to the person or persons involved. The reports from the scene of this collision stated that there were injuries sustained by each car’s inhabitant, but that the injuries were not life-threatening.
Both drivers-believed to be the only people inside of the cars at the time of the collision-were taken from the scene of the crash to a nearby hospital where they began to receive treatment for their injuries.
