A police chase throughout Herndon that took place on December 30th concluded, thankfully, with the pursued suspect being arrested and given numerous charges. The official report on the incident states that a 33-year-old Sterling resident Rojo-Cervates was driving a vehicle throughout Herndon when, for reasons that were not made clear in the initial report, they became the subject of a police chase. Although the specific reasons behind the police’s pursuit of Rojo-Cervates are not clear, it seems probable, based on the later incidents involving the same man, that he was driving erratically and irresponsibly and police with the Herndon Police Department attempted to make a routine traffic stop which resulted in Rojo-Cervates fleeing from the officers.
The chase lasted for an unspecified period of time, but it does appear that Rojo-Cervates was able to elude the officers following him and make his way to Sterling. It was in this new location, close to 2:00 in the morning, that Rojo-Cervates again attracted the attention of police officers. The officers who began to follow Rojo-Cervates this second time matched the license plate and car description with that of the person involved in the previous altercation with the Herndon Police.
Again, Rojo-Cervates perceived the attention leveled at him by law enforcement and attempted to flee from the pursing officer. It was when he reached Seneca Ridge Road that Rojo-Cervates, for reasons that were not disclosed in the initial report, leapt from his vehicle and tried to escape on foot from the tailing officers. While he did manage to temporarily prolong the chase, police officers were eventually able to catch Rojo-Cervates by following him to his home. Here, members of the police force were able to arrest the man without additional incident.
The report concluded by stating that Rojo-Cervates was saddled with numerous charges, including several charges of attempting to elude the police, a DUI, the refusal of a breathalyzer test, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license. It is believed that this is Rojo-Cervates’ 3rd DUI in 10 years.
At the time of this writing, Rojo-Cervates is located at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
