Car Flips off On-Ramp in Alexandria

A ramp connecting the western lanes of Duke Street to Telegraph Road was shut down for an unspecified amount of time on Monday, September 24th, after a single car crash left the roadway impassable due to the emergency response teams as well as the officers conducting the preliminary investigation into the incident.

According to reports from the Alexandria Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 10:00 in the morning, possibly around 9:45 a.m., and that it only involved one car. This car was traveling from either Telegraph Road to Duke Street or from Duke Street to Telegraph Road when something happened to cause the driver of the car to lose control of the vehicle. In the following moments, the driver was unable to regain control and the car subsequently flipped off of its wheels and onto its roof.

The reports from the Alexandria Police Department do not indicate just who called the emergency services after the crash took place, but we do know that the police reached the area before 10:00 and that the paramedics and EMTs were there at the scene with them.

No information exists on the identity of the driver, but it is believed that they were the only person inside of the car at the time of the crash. It is also believed that, while the driver was injured in the incident, the extent of their injuries was considerably less that what it might have been.

Members of the Alexandria Fire Department fully evaluated the driver of the car, and while they did indicate that the driver was not suffering from any serious injuries, they did not indicate whether or not the driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment or evaluation.

Although neither the Alexandria Police Department nor the Alexandria Fire Department issued official statements regarding the cause or causes of the incident, it is possible that the driver lost control due to the continued presence of water running down the roadways after Hurricane Florence passed by in mid-September. The rain was still falling at the time when the incident described above happened and it is entirely possible that the roads were far more slick than normal.
