Pedestrian Killed in Falls Church Crash Identified

Several days ago, we reported on a crash in Falls Church that involved an unidentified pedestrian. The crash, which happened on Labor Day (Monday, September 3rd) happened sometime around 2:00 in the morning. During the initial investigation, the police either had not identified the woman or had not contacted any of the person's family to let them know about the incident. For this reason, the name of the person involved was withheld from the public until just recently.

A new report has emerged from the Fairfax County Police Department in relation to the incident, and the most noticeable difference between this report and the last one is that the woman in question was, in the new report, identified. We know know that they were a 36-year-old Falls Church resident.

Shortly before the fatal accident, sometime around 2:00 in the morning, this person was walking alongside Arlington Boulevard. Like we reported earlier in this blog, the woman then decided to leave the sidewalk and cross the street. Unfortunately, the area where she decided to do so did not feature a crosswalk or any sort of other safety features for pedestrians. A car traveling down the westbound lanes approached at this time, and before the driver of this car could swerve to avoid the woman, they collided with her.

Most of this will be familiar to those who encountered this story in one form or another, but for the sake of comprehensiveness we will repeat it here: the driver struck the woman with the car, inflicting fatal injuries on her as they did so. The driver then remained at the scene until emergency response crews reached the area. Then they cooperated with the authorities during the preliminary investigation. The woman, unfortunately, was declared dead at the scene of the crash.

Fairfax County Police officers ultimately determined that neither speed nor alcohol were responsible for the crash, and it is not believed that the driver of the car will face any charges as a result of the fatal accident.

The investigation into the incident is still underway, but at the time of this writing it appears as though the authorities have reached a conclusion in this case.
