Young Cyclist Injured in Accident Near Vienna Park

Very recently, a report pertaining to an incident that took place earlier in June was released by the Vienna Police Department through their "Police Highlights" page on the City of Vienna's website. According to this report, the auto accident in question took place on the 14th of June, during the evening, and involved a bicycle as well as a car. While much of the information pertaining to the incident itself is not public knowledge, we do have most of the particulars from which to draw the events as they very likely happened.

It was around 5:00 in the evening when the cyclist, a 16-year-old who was not named in the initial report, was riding their bike throughout Glyndon Park, close to where the park intersects with Glyndon Street. The young person had just taken their bike through the park and was now going to merge onto the street. The reports suggested that the cyclist failed to stop their bike before exiting the pedestrian and bike area and entering the roadway.

At the same time as the cyclist was leaving the park, a car, also not described in any way, was traveling down the northern lanes of Glyndon Street, nearing the Glyndon Park, and, more specifically, nearing the entrance to the park where people, such as the child on the bicycle, were walking to and fro, exiting and entering the charming green space.

The kid with the bike shot out of the park and, seemingly without looking or stopping, entered the street at precisely the point where the car was also attempting to drive. The bicycle struck the car's front right side, and it appears that the cyclist was thrown from their bike and onto the windshield of the car. It is not clear if the windshield was damaged, or if the child simply struck it with his body.

9-1-1 was called and police and paramedics from Vienna and the surrounding Fairfax County area were soon at the scene and tending to the child. While the accident did result in some injuries incurred by the cyclist, and while they were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, it appears that the injuries were not life-threatening and it is expected that the child will recover.
