Two Dead, Two Injured after Fairfax County Parkway Crash

A crash that happened in Fairfax County over this past weekend has resulted in the death of at least two individuals as well as the hospitalization of two others. Police with the Fairfax County Police Department indicated that the incident occurred along the Fairfax County Parkway, close to the crossover of the parkway and Walnut Branch Road.

It was either shortly before or shortly after 2:00 in the morning when a 2004 Acura MDX was headed down the northbound lanes of Fairfax County Parkway. The driver of this car, a person who was not immediately identified in the preliminary reports, was possibly operating the vehicle at a higher than posted limit. Police also indicated that they have reason to believe that the driver of the Acura had consumed alcohol before climbing behind the wheel of the car. Although the precise reasons for the police's suspicions regarding this fact are not clear, and although we do not know what the BAC of the car's driver was at the time of the incident, it seems clear that as the investigation moves forward both of these factors will be more fully examined.

As the Acura neared the above mentioned juncture along the Fairfax County Parkway, something happened to cause the car's driver to lose control of the vehicle. Although the precise moments of the car are not known, it seems that the Acura collided with at least one other vehicle before leaving the roadway. The report did not indicate if the car rolled over, and we do not know if the people inside of the Acura were wearing their seatbelts, but it is now confirmed that two people inside of the Acura, a 21-year-old from Sterling and a 23-year-old from Reston were declared dead at the scene of the incident.

It is not clear if anyone inside of the second car was badly injured of if the two people hospitalized were also in the Acura. The report did state that a second vehicle was involved and that the driver of this car remained at the scene of the incident throughout the entire preliminary investigation.
