Two Car Crash at Stoplight in Vienna

On the evening of the 4th of July, when people were in the midst of celebrating Independence Day with cookouts, cold beer, and fireworks, an incident took place which placed a damper on the celebrations for several people who were in their cars. A report from the Vienna Police Department states that the auto accident happened shortly after 11:00 in the evening, and that both of the cars were driving down the western lanes of Maple Avenue.

The report from the Vienna Police stated that both of the vehicles were driving down the same lane, and both of the cars had stopped with a line of traffic to wait for a light at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Park Street to change from red to green. The light changed, and cars began to move forward. For reasons that are not clear, one of the cars did not accelerate immediately. It is possible that they did not notice the light change, or that they were distracted, but whatever the reason when the light went from red to green this car did not move forward right away.

Normally, such an incident is not a problem, and the drivers to the rear of such a halted car will either wait until the car begins to move or administer several small honks to alert the driver in front that the time has come to continue traveling down the road. Such events did not happen on July 4th, and one of the cars behind the stopped car either apparently saw that the light had changed from red to green and, apparently assuming that all of the other drivers were obeying the light as well, accelerated. This caused the car to slam into the back of the one stopped before it, resulting in damage to both vehicles.

No information exists on whether or not any of the people involved in the crash suffered from injuries as a result of the collision, and the report also failed to indicate the severity of the damage done to the cars.

The driver behind the stopped car was issued a summons by the Vienna Police Department for "failure to pay full time and attention".
