Pedestrian Struck and Killed Inside Fairfax

A pedestrian inside of Fairfax County was hit by a car on Friday, June 29th, as they were making their way down Main Street inside of the city of Fairfax itself. According to early reports from the Fairfax County Police Department, the individual (believed to be a 37-year-old who has, as of the time of this writing, not been officially identified) was on foot and walking in a westerly direction down the rightmost side of the eastbound lanes of the street when a car came down this same lane. The report also indicated that the time when this all took place was shortly before 5:30 in the morning.

It appears that as the car approached the pedestrian, the driver of the vehicle failed to see the person on foot. This, or the driver of the car believed there was enough space between the vehicle and the pedestrian. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and the car - a vehicle that was not at all described in the initial reports - collided with the pedestrian somewhere around the intersection of Main Street and Tedrich Boulevard.

Shortly after the collision, 9-1-1 was called in to the scene. It is not clear if the driver of the car placed the emergency call or if the call was placed by a witness to the incident, however it does appear that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene during the duration of the initial police examination.

The pedestrian was rushed from the area where the accident took place to Fairfax Hospital. The extent of this person's injuries when emergency medical teams reached was critical, and despite the best efforts of both the EMTs and the hospital staff, there was little that medical help could do to lessen the severity of the person's wounds. They were declared dead some time after arriving at the hospital.

Now, police with the Fairfax County Police Department are working to conclude an investigation into the incident. At the center of their work is the question as to whether or not the driver of the car was at fault for the collision and subsequent death of the pedestrian.
