Man Convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter in 2017 Loudoun County Accident

An individual involved in a fatal traffic accident from February 20th, 2017, was convicted on the 18th of July of involuntary manslaughter in relation to the crash. According to the reports now emerging, the Loudoun County Circuit Court heard enough information over the course of the trial to decide that the 27-year-old Sterling resident was the primary person at fault for the incident which cost the life of a 22-year-old individual.

The accident began on that day in February when the 27-year-old had joined numerous friends and co-workers at an unnamed Loudoun County restaurant for a celebration of some sort. After spending an unspecified amount of time at this restaurant, the man offered a ride to a handful of people who were at the event with him. The four people then climbed into the 27-year-old's Jeep Wrangler and left the party.

It was as they were on their way down Route 28 that something happened to cause the 27-year-old to lose control of the car. Crash reconstruction teams suspect that the quartet was headed down the road at an advanced rate of speed when the driver attempted to apply the brakes in order to prevent a collision with the concrete barrier separating the two sides of the roadway. As a result, the car began to spin uncontrollably. It collided with the barrier, bounced off, and then as the driver attempted to right the course they overcorrected and the car flipped over.

Two people were thrown from the Jeep as it rolled across the road. One of these people, a 22-year-old, was critically injured. Loudoun County Fire and Rescue individuals attended to her at the scene of the crash, but there was only so much that they could do and she was declared dead at the crash site.

Police who responded to the incident said that the 27-year-old driver of the car had bloodshot eyes and that he smelled strongly of alcohol. They also said that he was not stable while standing on his own two feet, although it is entirely possible that this is due to his having just been in a serious car accident. A breathalyzer test revealed that the driver's BAC level was very much over the legal limit. In addition, it was discovered that the driver was traveling without a valid license after an incident that led to its suspension the prior February.

At the time of this writing, the 27-year-old is now being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. A final hearing in his case is slated to occur on October 19th.
