A relatively minor collision in Dunn Loring on one of the last days in May resulted in massive lane closures along a busy intersection just as the morning commute was tapering off towards its conclusion. According to Tweets and other official reports from the Fairfax County Police Department, the crash involved two vehicles that were both traveling down Gallows Road, close to where this street passes by the Dunn Loring Metro Station, and around where the already mentioned street crosses over the heavy trafficked Interstate 495. While we do know that no lives were lost in the collision, it is also a fact that the crash resulted in several injuries.
Details regarding the specifics of the collision are difficult to come by, and most of what we know comes from a minimalist Tweet issued by the Fairfax County Police Department shortly after emergency response crews reached the crash site and began the initial investigation and cleanup.
Two cars were involved in the collision, although it is not clear if the police are considering the crash to be the result of one specific person's poor choices. It is also not clear if the crash was a rear-end collision, a head-on collision, a T-bone crash, or some other type of impact, a fact which could help in knowing what sort of injuries were sustained by the individuals involved.
Emergency response crews were called into the scene shortly after the collision took place, sometime around 9:30, and it seems highly probable that one or both of the people involved placed the call. It is also possible that one or more witnesses to the crash called the authorities.
Based on the lane closures and the warning from the Fairfax County Police Department that motorists looking to travel down this particular stretch of Gallows Road should look for alternate routes, it is likely that the collision resulted in large amounts of debris strewn about the area. It is also possible that the lane closures were needed in order for the investigators working with the Fairfax County Police Department to conduct a thorough search of the area in order to uncover any clues as to why the crash happened at all.
