Officers working with the Prince William County Police Department responded with paramedics throughout the same area to reports of an early morning crash along Prince William Parkway on Wednesday. Reports from the Prince William County Police Department indicate that the accident happened close to 1:15 in the morning and involved a single vehicle and its driver. An investigation is currently underway to determine just what happened to cause the crash and its subsequent fatality.
The news release from the Prince William County Police Department states that a 19-year-old Manassas resident was behind the wheel of her 2005 Honda Accord and driving down the northern lanes of Prince William Parkway when she began to close in on Scenic Point Place. Before she could reach this area, the driver of the Accord lost control of her vehicle. It is not clear if there were witnesses to the crash or if the responding officers were able to deduce the trajectory of the car after investigating the area, but the report indicated that after the driver lost control of the car it swerved towards the right shoulder, left the parkway, violently impacted an embankment, and rolled over. At some point during this process, the driver, who authorities claim did not use their seatbelt, was ejected from the car.
The driver sustained fatal injuries after being ejected, and nothing that the responding paramedics did could revive her. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Police shut down the entirety of Prince William Parkway's westbound lanes while they began their initial investigation into the incident. At the time of this writing, the only conclusive findings reported by the Prince William County Police Department are that the woman was believed to be operating her vehicle at excessive speeds shortly before the incident. The report did not state how this fact was deduced, nor did it state just what is meant by "excessive." It is believed that the authorities will now look into whether or not any inebriating substances such as drugs or alcohol might have played any sort of role in the fatal incident.
