Haymarket Man Killed in Memorial Day Weekend ATV Crash

The weekend of Memorial Day is a time for people to take a break from their standard weekend activities and enjoy a vacation or do something unexpected. Much of the normal pursuits of people over the course of the three days involve being outdoors: fishing, hiking, camping, kayaking, etc. An extremely popular form of enjoying the outdoors also comes in the form of motorized off-road vehicles. This includes things like riding dirt bikes and ATVs. On Saturday night, a Haymarket man in Prince William County was doing just this when he was involved in an accident that cost him his life.

According to the official Prince William County Police Report, the individual, a 43-year-old, was enjoying a solo outing onboard a 2013 Kawasaki 750 and driving around a local neighborhood. It is not clear if the man had used the off-road vehicle to travel off-road or if he was just using it to drive around the streets of his town. We do know that it was as he entered the 16900 block of Stormy Drive that something happened to cause him to lose control of the vehicle.

The precise reasons behind this loss of control are not known, although police with the Prince William County Police Department have indicated that it is highly possible that excessive speed was likely a primary cause. The reports from this law enforcement body did not indicate why they believed this to be the case.

It was close to 5:00 in the evening when the incident that cost the man his life took place. He was driving the Kawasaki 750 down the eastern lane of Prince William Drive, lost control, and crashed. It is not clear who called the police, although it is highly probable that, given the loud sounds given off by the vehicle as it flipped, numerous witnesses heard the accident.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and found the 43-year-old man suffering from extremely severe injuries. He was able to be taken from the area to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately the extent of his damages was too much for the medical staff to heal and he was declared dead some time after arriving.
