Police working within Loudoun County are in the process of investigating an incident that led to the death of a 42-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio. Initial reports from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office indicate that the accident took place inside of the city of Sterling, shortly before 9:00 in the morning on May 21st. While the majority of the facts relating to this particular case have yet to be released by the authorities in charge of the investigation, we do know many of the basic elements of the case.
It seems that the 42-year-old Toledo resident was driving a car along the 24000 block of Dulles Landing Circle. At the same time, a tractor-trailer was parked along the shoulder of the road. The reports did not indicate if the tractor-trailer included the cab or if the rig itself was the only part of the truck still in the area. The reports also failed to indicate just what the tractor-trailer was doing in the area and whether or not the vehicle was allowed to be parked along the side of this particular stretch of road.
As the driver approached the location where of the sitting tractor-trailer, the Toledo man somehow lost control of his vehicle. It is not clear if he suffered from a medical emergency or if some other catalyst caused him to swerve off of the road itself and onto the shoulder. The Toledo man's car collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer with tremendous force, and it seems highly likely that he was not able to begin applying the breaks in the moments before the collision took place.
An unknown individual alerted the police to the crash, and investigators as well as paramedics and deputies reached the area shortly after the emergency call was placed. It is not clear if the call was made in the minutes after the crash or if the collision had occurred some time before.
By the time the medical teams accessed the Toledo man he had already succumbed to his admittedly severe injuries. An investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is currently ongoing as the authorities attempt to discover what happened to cause this fatal incident.
