On Thursday, April 19th, numerous cars were involved in an accident that happened in Arlington, at the intersection of the Arlington Boulevard Access Road and North Nash Street. Reports from fire officials within Arlington County indicate that the incident included up to seven vehicles and that one of them was a garbage truck that was in the process of transporting trash from the city to a landfill.
Details relating to the incident are not fully fleshed out, but we do know that the accident happened at close to 1:00 in the afternoon. It is not clear just how the incident took place, and it is likely that the police are currently working on an investigation into whether or not any individual or individuals should hold the primary responsibility for the crash.
Pictures taken from the scene show the cars, many of them with crushed front ends, pressing against what appears to be a rock embankment. In a lot on the other side of the wall, the red and white garbage truck is positioned facing the cars, its back end dangling over the side of a concrete wall. Lying on the sidewalk underneath the garbage truck are numerous pieces of debris that look as though they likely came from cars or perhaps spilled out of the back of the garbage truck.
While the emergency response crews from Arlington County worked together to clean up the area, the entire access road was closed between North Queen and North Meade Street. Traffic attempting to pass through the area was rerouted through different back streets and there was a noticeable amount of congestion while authorities worked to make the roadway passable once again.
Regarding injuries, it is believed that, at this point, only one of the numerous individuals involved in the collision was undergoing any treatment. The report did not specify the nature of this person's injuries, and it is not known if they were transported to a hospital or simply treated at the scene of the incident.
Because the investigation into the crash is still considered ongoing, it is likely that additional facts will emerge as the investigators uncover them.
