DUI Charges For Driver who Collided with Fairfax County Public School Bus

It was towards the end of March that a police report was filed by officers with the Fairfax County Police Department regarding an incident that took place in Hybla Valley and ended with the arrest of an Alexandria resident who was charged with DUI among other things.

According to the official report from the Fairfax Police Department, the event unfolded on Tuesday, March 20th, shortly after 4:30 in the afternoon when an emergency call came into the Fairfax County Police Department dispatcher that claimed a car driving near to the intersection of Fordson Road and Sherwood Hall Lane had collided with the rear of a school bus working for the Fairfax County Public Schools. Witnesses to the crash told authorities that after the collision the driver of the vehicle had sped away from the area, leaving the school bus with some external damage. Fortunately, none of the children aboard the bus were injured in the crash.

Police began to search for the individual responsible for the collision, but initially had trouble locating the driver or their car. It was not until the authorities were alerted to the presence of an individual at a nearby hospital who matched the description given by the witnesses that they were able to conclude the search.

It appears that, after colliding with the school bus, the driver of the car drove themselves to a medical facility in order to receive treatment for some of the injuries they themselves suffered in the incident. While the extent of this person's injuries is not clear, we do know that once the police were alerted to their presence in the hospital they were arrested and charged with numerous offenses, including a felony hit-and-run charge.

The individual was identified as a 25-year-old Alexandria resident, and in addition to the hit-and-run charge, they were also arrested due to a still outstanding warrant relating to their failure to attend a scheduled court date in connection to a drug charge that they had received at some point last year.

It is believed that the individual in question is now awaiting a new trial, set for May 2nd, in which a decision will be made regarding all of the charges they received.
