Vienna Commuter Crashes in Heavy Snow

| Jan 11, 2018 | Auto Accidents |

Last Thursday, much of the eastern seaboard was rocked by a blast of arctic cold and hurricane-like conditions that brought freezing temperatures and snow to many places that were woefully unprepared for such weather. Our state was not spared the chill, and road conditions especially became rapidly treacherous, especially for those who were forced to commute long distances in the early hours of the morning.

One such driver, who was not named in the initial report from the Fairfax County Police, was making their way to work at close to 6:30 in the morning. Their path took them down the southern lanes of East Street North East in Vienna. The individual behind the wheel, already apprehensive regarding the plummeting temperatures and worsening conditions, was debating in their mind whether or not to continue on their way or to turn back home as the falling snow thickened before them and the roadways became more and more impassible.

As they neared Maple Avenue East, the driver decided to turn around. Slowing down, they began to initiate a U-turn, hoping to merge back into the northern lanes and end the dangerous adventure. It was as they were making this turn that the bad weather made itself fully felt and the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle. The car slid across the northern lanes of East Street North East and collided with the steep curb. The car then proceeded to drive over the curb and off of the road.

Emergency response teams from Vienna and the surrounding area were called into the scene of the incident. The individual was rescued from their vehicle and the car was ultimately able to be pulled from the ditch where it landed after the frightening loss of control.

The Fairfax County Police Report reassured those concerned that the driver involved, although they suffered some minor injuries, was doing well after the crash. The car also suffered from some minor damage, although it doesn’t seem as though the damage to the driver or the car was too serious. No other individuals were injured or involved
