Manassas Man Charged with Hit-and-Run and DUI

Several Sundays ago, Virginia State Police rushed to respond to reports of an accident along Interstate 66, near to the 48th mile marker in the westbound lanes. According to the official report, the accident, which is being treated as a hit-and-run and a DUI, resulted in the death of one person as well as the injuries of two others. The events as they have currently been recounted indicate that a 58-year-old man from Manassas, Tran, was behind the death and injuries.

It was just after 4:00 in the morning when a white SUV being driven by Tran collided with two other vehicles in Interstate 66's westbound lanes. Although the initial report did not provide specific details around the circumstances of the crash, it seems the cars that Tran collided with were carrying several people. It seems uncertain whether or not the initial accident was the result of Tran's actions or if there is perhaps another reason why the cars collided, but the facts do indicate that after the collision occurred Tran fled the scene.

When emergency response teams arrived, they found that one of the individuals who suffered injuries as result of the crash was unable to be saved. This individual was declared dead at the scene. In the days after the incident occurred, the name of the deceased individual was withheld as police attempted to find and notify this individual's next of kin.

A second person, apparently a passenger in the vehicle being driven by the now deceased individual, was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that the spokesperson for the Virginia State Police, Geller, said were not life-threatening. A third individual was in a car that overturned in the crash. They were also taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Tran was apprehended only a few minutes after the accident occurred. A Virginia Department of Transportation employee noticed a white SUV with a surprising amount of damage along the entire front of the vehicle. At this point in time, it seems that Tran was attempting to leave Interstate 66 along the Sudley Road exit. Virginia State Troopers as well as police with the Prince William County Police Department rushed to intercept Tran and ultimately arrested him on charges including hit-and-run and DUI.
